FreeMandee Gage: ‘Between Above and Below’
A timeline of an evolution gone astray
The Stash Gallery
10 June – 1 July 2023
PV: Saturday, 10 June, 6 -10pm
Mandee Gage’s work considers our place in the world, the boundaries imposed and innate.
Her interest in sociology, psychology and the environment have shaped her work, which often looks at the bizarre self-destructive nature of our system and our struggle to adapt.
She works as a mixed media artist often using clay, wax, fabric, paper and waste plastic. She utilises her ceramic skills alongside processes of attaching, sewing, twisting and organising.
Some work utilises story telling in dioramas, casting a sardonic humour on our behaviour.
‘We reside in a space between forces. Between those entities that seek to control and the natural workings of nature. We must navigate this space, the pressures, the denial, our desires, and the need to safeguard what is truly precious.’ Mandee Gage, 2023
‘neo-liberal economic thinking that ignores social wellbeing has led to massive inequality and decreasing quality of life for many, even in high income countries’ Addicted to Growth by Robert Costanza
