4 March – 14 April 2022 – On 14th April at 7 there will be a small gallery discussion about women artists and Alice’s work with Kate Mason of The Big Draw , Marcelle Hanslaar, artist and printmaker and Sophie Parkin, writer artist and broadcaster (shadowspies podcast).

To celebrate International Women’s Day, The Stash Gallery presents 76 portraits by Alice Herrick. These tender pencil and ink studies on watercolour paper are of the faces, and importantly – the hands, of a selection of international female artists, whose lives and work resonate in Alice’s own life and art practice.

This ongoing series is Alice’s response to the discourse around an increasing number of female artists being finally recognised in galleries and museums, as she reshapes her own view of art history and contemporary art. Configured around eyes and hands, an artist’s closest and most vital instruments, Alice pays homage to those who have inspired and trail blazed past and present, forging a devotional practice of study and exploration that in turn has been a journey of affirmation, discovery and revelation.

Alice Herrick is a multi-disciplinary artist, using drawing, painting, sculpture, installation, photography, film and performance to explore and celebrate human experience.  She has a 1^st class fine art degree, and completed her painting masters at Chelsea College of Art. Alice has worked in film, arts education, live arts & exhibition curation and ran the Herrick Gallery for seven years in Shoreditch and Mayfair. @aliceherrickstudio
